LeMieux & ESG

At our core, we care about creating positive change in everything we do at

We aim to operate our business responsibly, and to continuously improve our environmental and social performance across the equestrian industry. Sharing our progress and policy publicly keeps us accountable.

As our ESG goals evolve, so does the work behind them. Every figure on this page sits alongside the practice that produced it.

We are committed to ensuring that the environmental and sustainability information published here is accurate, proportionate and supported by appropriate evidence. Where a claim relates to a certified product, an independent standard or supplier information, supporting documentation is retained and made available to competent authorities where required.

Sourcing and supply

At LeMieux we are committed to considering the welfare of animals, our people and environmental impacts in the way we operate our business.

  • FIBRES - Traceable horsehair, goat hair and sheep's wool sourcing. Our horse and goat hair are sourced from domesticated sources, and the sheep's wool we procure is supplied from mulesing-free sources. We are increasing our use of Simuwool as a replacement for traditional sheep's wool.Traceable and sustainable horsehair, goat hair and sheep’s wool sourcing. • TIMBER - LeMieux sources timber for our wooden toys and Hobby Horse handles from FSC-certified or FSC-controlled sources where specified.
  • REFORESTATION - Through our partnership with Ecologi, LeMieux has funded the planting of more than 4,300 trees. Ecologi records these contributions across supported projects in Kenya, Madagascar, Ethiopia, Uganda, Peru, Senegal, Tanzania, Mozambique and Argentina.
  • AUDITING - Selected supplier sites participate in Sedex and undergo SMETA audits carried out by independent audit providers. These audits assess labour standards, health and safety, business ethics and — where included within the audit scope — environmental management. We use audit findings and corrective-action plans as part of our supply-chain due-diligence process.
  • Our HQ

We feel responsible for the environmental impact of our business and commit to continuous improvement.

  • POWER - Our HQ electricity demand is met through on-site solar generation, together with REGO-backed renewable electricity purchased from our electricity supplier.
  • FLOOD RESILIENCE - A flood prevention system has been installed via a 1.5 million litre attenuation tank.
  • WASTE - In 2025 we recycled 93% of the waste produced at our HQ, with the remaining waste used for energy production.
  • COMPLIANCE - We comply with applicable UK Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) and Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SECR) requirements. We are also preparing for compliance with applicable EU packaging legislation, including the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), where it applies to our products.
  • WILDLIFE - We have installed bat boxes and bug hotels at our HQ, and planted species intended to provide resources for pollinators, including alliums, foxgloves, Nepeta, Viburnum and Salvia.
  • LIGHTING - We use passive infrared controls and energy-efficient LED lighting to reduce unnecessary electricity consumption.
  • WATER - Toilets at our HQ include delayed-refill valves, water-saving cisterns and dual-flush controls, intended to reduce water consumption.
  • WAREHOUSING - Our warehouses incorporate insulated panels designed to reduce heat loss.
  • Materials

We continually review our products and operations to reduce environmental impacts where practicable. As it stands we send 0% of waste to landfill from our UK HQ, we avoided 7300kg of CO2e through Carbon balanced paper since 2024 and we protected 1300m² of tropical rainforest through the same programme.

  • TARGETS - We are assessing opportunities to reduce greenhouse-gas emissions and unnecessary plastic use within our operations and packaging. We will publish measurable targets where appropriate once the relevant baselines and implementation plans have been established.
  • PACKAGING - All saddle pad plastic packaging contains recycled plastic and is recyclable.
  • FILLING - We use Sorona® filling as an alternative to feather and down in selected products.
  • LISTENING - We're investigating materiality surveys with our stakeholders, to listen to their concerns about environmental, social and governance issues.
  • PAPER - Since 2024 we have used Carbon Balanced Paper for our catalogues. Our office paper is FSC-certified and PEFC-certified.
  • TAPE - We're working hard to replace plastic packing tape with paper-based gummed tape.
  • SHIPPING - Our international shipping bags are made from 100% recycled plastic and are recyclable. Where viable, we use FSC-endorsed paper mailing bags for UK orders, with Protega recyclable paper packing fillers — not plastic.
  • People

We’re a strong team with a positive company culture.

  • CULTURE - We take care of our people and our community with training, ethics and welfare practices that benefit everyone.
  • POLICY - Our Modern Slavery Policy sets out our approach to identifying and reducing modern slavery risks within our operations and supply chain.
  • DEVELOPMENT - We invest in our people through training and career development and engage with the workforce of tomorrow by attending career and educational events highlighting job roles and sustainability in the equestrian workplace.
  • EDUCATION - Our ESG department regularly engages with UK colleges and universities, discussing sustainability in the equestrian trade industry, advising on projects and coursework, and giving guided tours of LeMieux.
  • Charity

We like to be transparent when it comes to charity giving. Wherever possible, we’ll reflect openly on our progress as we work towards our goals.

  • ON THE GROUND - LeMieux team members donate volunteering time at Glenda Spooner Farm, part of the World Horse Welfare network, every year.
  • WORLD HORSE WELFARE - Since 2022, LeMieux and its customers have contributed more than £118,000 to World Horse Welfare — through customer checkout donations on lemieux.com, donations generated from sales of the Daphne and Lemon World Horse Welfare toys and the Lemon the Rescue Pony book, and contributions made by LeMieux as part of our charity partnership with World Horse Welfare.
  • BEYOND OUR PARTNERSHIP - We donate to local and national charities supporting a range of causes, including inner-city riding schools, Armed Forces charities, schools, universities and Riding for the Disabled groups. In 2025, we donated products with a total cost value of more than £82,000 to UK charities.
