Half Pads - FAQs

Why choose a LeMieux Half Saddle Pad?

Horse half pads are completely versatile as they can be used with almost any saddle type. They are typically used for added shock absorption, to stabilise the saddle or to balance the saddle with additional corrective shims. You can use them on top of most saddle pads. Another benefit of LeMieux half pads is they sit neatly under the saddle, giving your horse riding gear a clean, sophisticated look.

What are LeMieux Half Saddle Pads made of?

Discover half saddle pads made from merino wool, shaped gel, and anti-slip silicone. These materials provide shock absorption, temperature regulation and enhance your horse’s comfort. Some styles also have memory foam to evenly distribute pressure and support the saddle.

Which Half Pad is right for your horse?

Half pads come in a range of different materials and some even include correctional shims to balance the saddle. We recommend speaking with your saddle fitter to find the best style for your horse

What are Half Pads for?

Half Pads are usually used in between the saddle pad and the saddle for added shock absorption and to stabilise the saddle. It is possible to balance the saddle by lifting it with additional corrective shims that fit inside the half pad, or where the half pad is thicker in certain areas called “risers”.

Some half pads used silicone gel to help stop saddles from sliding, making it more comfortable for your horse.

You can use LeMieux half pads on top of most saddle pads.

How should you look after a Half Pad?

As half pads come in a range of different materials, we recommend reading the care instructions for your specific half pad.

Most LeMieux half saddle pads can be washed in the machine on a normal 30-degree cycle. Before washing, close all fastenings and ensure your drum’s large enough for your saddle pad. When damp, pull the pad into the correct shape and air-dry it away from a heat source.

How long can you use a LeMieux Half Saddle Pad?

Even though LeMieux half saddle pads stand up to wear in areas of high friction, they undergo lots of wear and tear. They’ll last for years with the right TLC, but they’ll need to be replaced eventually. This depends on how long and often you ride.
