Willow's name was chosen by the winner of a competition among Badminton fans, engaging and involving the event’s passionate community.

Golden Willow was the youngest horse ever to win Badminton Horse Trials. The then-five-year-old won the first year of the event, in 1949, with rider John Shedden.

Today, horses must be a minimum of seven years old to compete.
